Platt and Lalande to play for the national team Belarus

The IIHF has confirmed the players' eligibility

HC Dinamo Minsk goalkeeper Kevin Lalande and forward Geoff Platt are eligible to play for the national ice hockey team Belarus. Belarusian Ice Hockey Association received a corresponding official confirmation from the IIHF on October, 2.

Canadians Geoff Platt and Kevin Lalande received the Belarusian citizenship in December 2011, but could not play for team Belarus until now.

According to the IIHF regulations, to be eligible to play for another country, a player must not only obtain a corresponding citizenship, but continuously play for the country’s club for at least two years (Kevin Lalande). If a player represented the national team of another state, then he needs to play for the club from a new country for at least 4 consecutive years (Geoff Platt – gold medal winner of the IIHF U-18 Ice Hockey World Championship on Team Canada in 2003).

As Kevin Lalande plays consecutively for HC Dinamo Minsk since August 2011, and Geoff Platt since August 2009, their period of naturalization ended in August 2013.
